Biography

As a Technician in the Geosciences Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Mr. Baum’s responsibilities include performing analytical chemistry tasks involving radioactive and hazardous materials, and maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing experimental records for reports, in addition to compiling data. He operates and performs routine maintenance on scientific instruments including an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP MS), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES), Dionex ICS-2500 and ICS-5000 Ion Chromatographs, and a Shimadzu Total Carbon Analyzer. Mr. Baum also assists project managers and study directors to coordinate and schedule project tasks, adhering to project and overhead budgets. He also trains and mentors junior staff members at the Laboratory.

Mr. Baum joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in October 2001 as a Scientist/Engineer Associate and was subsequently promoted to Scientist/Engineer in 2003. He served in that position until he was promoted to a Grade 5 Technician in March 2006.
